Goodnight Sweet Puss

I said goodbye to my sweet kitty Eris today. It was time and she was ready. My son was there with me, as was my ex, who was very supportive. She was only 8 1/2 months old and was loved more than any cat ever was. I am so proud of my son for how sweet and loving he has been, not just to Eris, but to me too. My sister offered to drive over from the Bay Area to be with me too.

I have a huge void in life right now. I spent every night for the last 2 months with her. I've been busy cleaning and doing laundry to keep my mind busy. Not so easy.

It was a tough day but I was surrounded by love, in person and in spirit.

Hard Decisions

I made an appointment to have my sweet kitty cat put down. It is scheduled for Friday at 4:30. Is it wrong to wish that she will die in her sleep between now and then? My son said his goodbyes tonight. I was doubly sad to see how upset he was.

I know that she will go on with the knowledge that she was loved more than any cat could every be loved.

So tell me... why is it that I've known she is going to die and it is so very hard now that the end is near?

Just Plain Nasty

What is more disgusting than the kitchen sponge at work? NOTHING! I've actually seen a co-worker wiping down the counter with this bad boy. I find myself being the sponge police by sneaking into the breakroom and tossing out the sponge. Somehow someone manages to find another one and a new breed of germs is born. Mythbusters did a show on hidden nasties. See the results below. No surprise!

Mythbusters Episode 136: Hidden Nasties

Many objects that people touch every day are dirtier than a toilet seat. CONFIRMED

Adam and Jamie chose a total of 8 objects to test for cleanliness: toilet seat, money, kitchen sponge, hotel room remote, computer keyboard, light switch, cell phone, and shopping cart. They swabbed each surface for 10 seconds and created Petri dishes from the swabs that incubated overnight. Their first method of measurement was to count the number of microorganism colonies on each dish. They found that the toilet seat sample actually had the fewest colonies, while the kitchen sponge sample had more than they could count:
* kitchen sponge (most colonies)
* money
* light switch
* computer keyboard
* hotel remote
* shopping cart
* cell phone
* toilet seat (fewest colonies)

Eris Update

My little kitty cat is still hanging on. She is very weak and stopped eating about 3 days ago. She continues to purr when she sees me or my son or when we pet or pick her up. She's not in any pain or discomfort and I am watching this very closely so I know when it's time to put her down. For now she is in kitty hospice care. Here's a picture of how sweet she looks when she is sleeping.
